2023-2024 School Calendar Texas – The Houston Independent School District Board of Education approved the proposed 2022-2023 academic calendar that adds an additional spring break to April and moves the last day of the first semester before winter break.
The calendar consists of one week off for Thanksgiving, two weeks of winter break, and one week of spring break. Students and staff will walk out on Labor Day, MLK Day, Chavez-Huerta Day and Memorial Day. HISD will also observe one fall break on October 5th and two spring breaks on April 7th and 21st.

Trustees approved a grant from the Texas Education Agency to support high-quality after-school programming. $882,500 comes from Elementary and Secondary Emergency (ESSER) III funds that will be used to accelerate student education in the wake of COVID-19. The dollars provide support in three areas: high-quality after-school staff, technical assistance for after-school design and implementation, and mentoring of high-impact after-school programs.

USA Trustees Approved an in-kind grant from the Soccer Foundation worth $100,000 to M.C. Williams MS. Donations are made through the Foundation's It's Every Way Game and Safe Places to Play programs. Supplies and materials will include a mini-field system structure that includes an LED lighting pole, play walls, built-in goals, storage, seating, polycarbonate panels, ADA-accessible doors, play lines, and a color-coordinated acrylic mini-field. . school logo.
The board approved a donation from Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. The church will provide $30,000 worth of supplies each to Blackshear ES, Cullen MS, Lawson MS and Yates HS. The purpose of the grant is to stock each school's resource room to help students in need. Donated supplies include clothing, toiletries and subway cards.
