Stratford Festival 2023 Calendar
Stratford Festival 2023 Calendar – DISCUSSION: Anthony flies to Broadway while Peter drives to the Stratford Festival where modern plays are better than traditional plays.
Peter enjoys the Stratford Festival (which used to be called "Stratford Shakespeare Festival") where modern plays (out of five, of which 6 read the musical CHICAGO) are more "classy" (only 3 Shakespeare and 1 Moliere). So far he's seen EVERY LITTLE NOOKIE in Stratford's more traditional "Studio Theatre" (like Shawfest's "Studio Theatre). It's a play. it's great that there's a queer group (meaning non-traditional/binary/ married / next door, etc.) .) younger than 40. , busy with love, life, work and home (groups not unlike those in the musical RENT) raise money by organizing swinger parties. And with four different places and a good group of resident players promises every story that will be the first place.. Peter's view you can read the seasons here.

Anthony flew to NYC to see some Broadway productions before switching teams, most notably FUNNY GIRL with Beanie Feldstein and Jane Lynch, which, thanks to all those actors, was a bit of a mess. But to do it with Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster in THE MUSIC MAN, that's amazing.

Speaking of Shakespeare, we still recommend the weekly "Britcom" (a British television comedy series) called "Upstart Crow" (a mockery of Shakespeare by one of his real partners, Robert Greene). Each week the boy is responsible for writing a story while drawing inspiration from events in his life, events very similar to modern problems (traffic jams and bad government come to mind, with survival, not Covid, but the plague). Sick as a shark? Yes, the clever writers of "Upstart Crow" did just that. Currently airing on WNED PBS (check your local listings) it's great.

The Times's Theater Critic Reviews Stratford's New Theater
Although "semi-retired", Peter Hall still wears many hats. He is the Sunday afternoon host on "sister station", Classical 94.5 / WNED, where he has conducted more than 1,000 radio interviews with music artists. If you see him at the movies with a pen in hand, he's probably ready to host "Theatre Talk" with Anthony Chase (listen Friday mornings at 6:45 and 8:45 tomorrow) or write a review for www.buffalorising .com. He is also a committee member for the "Artie Awards" (think "Tony Awards for Buffalo Theaters").

In the wake of the recent tragedy in Buffalo on the east side, we bring you a program that relentlessly confronts what caused the shooting.

Stratford Festival's 2021 Season To Begin July 10 With Outdoor Performances

The Stratford Festival had planned to celebrate the opening of its Tom Patterson Theater for the 2020 season before COVID-19 shut down the festival.JENNIFER ROBERTS/The Globe and Mail
The Stratford Festival suffered a loss of $4.3 million, the largest in its history, in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic – and the theater company hopes that the accumulated loss will double that amount by the end of 2021.

But CEO Anita Gaffney says she is "absolutely confident" in the multi-year plan to get many of North America's nonprofit theaters back on track.
Academy Of Dramatic Combat
"I recognize 2020 as an incredible achievement — the loss is only $4.3 million — given the conditions we've been given," Gaffney said. "The situation at the festival is fragile, but stable."

At its AGM on Saturday, the Stratford Festival publicly revealed the full extent of the damage the coronavirus has done to its finances in 2020: expenses of $27.6 million compared to income of just $23.3 million, 96 percent comes from the government, donations or waqf.
Revenue rose from $39 million in 2019 to $1 million with four of the company's attractions closed to visitors for the entire calendar year.

Another future liability was reported but not shown at the bottom of the $8 million Stratford patrons currently have "on the bill" due to program cancellations. This is income that will not be realized in future periods when the bonds are redeemed.
The Stratford Festival is probably one of the hardest hit Canadian non-profits because of its dependence on the box office – and the exact timing of the arrival of the disease in this country.

Architect Antoni Cimolino had 15 larger-than-life shows with a budget of $76 million planned for 2020 to celebrate the opening of the new Tom Patterson Theater.
Donna Feore Taking A Break From Stratford Festival In 2023
The exhibition was supposed to start in April last year, but the first wave of COVID-19 closed the stages a few weeks before that.

Although the Festival moved quickly to reduce costs and fees, at that time of the year it had already spent $13 million – for example, artists, building arrangements, ticket sales.
A way out of the current situation for Stratford begins with moving forward in the red with a small season 2021 seen as an investment in maintaining relations with its artists, fans, tourism and locals, but it will lose money.

Stratford Festival: Antony And Cleopatra (2015)
This summer, Cimolino intends to perform six plays and a series of cabarets by eight actors in two open-air tents for an audience of 100 spectators. These shows will also be recorded for the $10/month Stratfest at Home streaming service, which launched in late 2020 and currently has less than 3,500 subscribers.
The budget for this 2021 season, with tickets expected to go on sale next month, is just under $37 million, with an expected loss of $4 million.

The theater company hopes to be able to return to something like normal operations in 2022. Mar
