2023-24 Ocps Calendar – The state is pushing for schools in the district to open in August. However, this recommendation contradicts previous medical warnings from Dr. Fauci and other experts. Please keep in mind that districts may choose to open schools, pursue distance learning, or hybrid plans at their own discretion. And all working conditions affected by the reopening must be negotiated. The CTA requested the agreement back in April.

Emergency Order 2020-02 was issued today by the Florida Board of Education. Addresses several expansions of teacher certification and reading accreditation, provides flexibility in scheduling IEPs/EPs and assessments of ELL students, and confirms that the requirement for teacher evaluations has been suspended.

Teachers who wish to pick up items should call the principal or administrator as soon as possible to make an appointment. (Please read the third paragraph below.)

Covid 19 Updates

It is voluntary. You do not need to report to school to collect your belongings or pack them for class. You can arrange for someone else if you think your health may be at risk.

The district also arranged for the students' parents to collect the students' belongings. If you feel uncomfortable with someone walking past your student desk and/or classroom, please discuss this with the administration and arrange for another solution. The link is at the bottom of the comment.

Some were curious about the rumors about the extension of summer and the start of school. Know this – our contract language is the same as our contract language, regardless of whether the lessons are taught at school or from home. Today, the district issued a memorandum to all principals, vice principals and teachers outlining ideas for setting progress grades. It was reviewed by the CTA and our legal counsel. This is consistent with the memo dated 4-21-2020 which states:

"Teachers assign student work and grades based on peer review. The teacher has discretion over the order, scope, and type of work. The teacher does not have to grade unless the student completes the work. (See Concept 4 ).. and an explanation of how to use Skyward at this link.) Teachers are not responsible for submitting grades for work they do not receive Due to personal support, shared equipment, social-emotional and relationship concerns teachers have empathy and common sense in grading, and students can make up missed assignments during grading period."

Teachers are free to use these ideas or evaluate them as they see fit based on their professional judgment. CTA calls for common compassion and respect in times of crisis.

Once again, the district made a unilateral, unreasonable decision to call for participation, meetings and evaluation procedures. We requested an agreement regarding all these working conditions related to distance education. If no agreement is reached with the union, the employers cannot decide what they want. CTA requires bargaining not only from all members of our bargaining unit, but also from all students and all parents. We also learned from them that the situation in some cities is terrible

Just this week, the Circuit Court of Appeals upheld PERC's ruling in favor of the CTA on the DPLC settlement. The city ordered it not to bargain in good faith with the union. We filed a lawsuit against them for not honoring our participation agreement.

It was very comforting to hear that the city only asked for "two unsuccessful meetings per month". (See highlighted in yellow below.)

There is a phone number at the bottom of "Unusable news". The city wants employees to call to "answer your questions." Ask for your link if you have any questions. Can you trust a city with a constant lack of commerce? Why not call this number and tell them what you think of their non-transferable orders, many of which are against our memo and contract language. OCPS Teachers – I just confirmed from OCPS (yes, their leaders work weekends!) that you do not have to go to school to put on a school uniform to take home to class. Don't risk your or your family's health by going to school or work. I do not need it. OCPS is working on a solution, including CTA's offer to scan and submit the work. We will let you know. Everyone stay home, be safe. Be healthy and optimistic!

No need for video conferencing for faculty or team meetings. In fact, the PLC is not needed at this time. If a teacher wants to interact with other teachers, that is their decision. We need to recognize that teachers need to focus on teaching their students and taking care of their own children and families while working from home. Currently, meetings and notifications to administrators can be done via email or pre-scheduled teleconferences, allowing teachers to adjust schedules with students and parents.

Peers should not follow their peers unless you agree. It's a contract. The rating has been canceled for this year. There can be no "teaching observations" or other observations unless you invite someone to observe the class.

Yesterday, the CTA received an email from the principal informing the faculty: "Yesterday, a live meeting at another school was Zoom Bombed and an adult male exposed himself to children at the meeting. After that, the school sent a robocall home. . The entire community has been informed of what happened to them. Here is some information that indicates the difference between Zoom and BBB. We have sent this information to the director. They are leaving town."

The district repeatedly failed to notify the CTA, despite our requests for all communications sent to administrators during the crisis.

I understand that this seems silly, but these are real situations that have very dangerous consequences for no reason.
