Ithaca College Academic Calendar Fall 2023 – More than 1,500 members of the 2023 college class will study and work at South Hill for at least four years. At that time, ICs can change almost all of their lives when they are educated based on the philosophy of "theory, practice and practice". Some will leave college marks. So who are they? Meet the members of the 2023 class.
Diligence, attention, curiosity, compassion and determination are some of the words used by people who know them. Their programs include stories of success, leadership, perseverance and success. In this course, students form organizations in their communities, travel and live abroad and work on various social issues.

A student trained as a sports coach for a little league basketball team. Another set up a tennis clinic for young people with autism. A student is making a solar panel for his high school.

Becky Andrews, 23, turned her passion for tennis and community service into a tennis clinic for children with autism in her hometown of Goshen, New York. At IC, she will specialize in clinical health studies while pursuing a PhD in Physical Therapy. He also plays on the IC tennis team and will continue with charity work.

"Community service is something I've been doing my whole life and I have no plans to stop," Andrews said. "While I'm here, I hope to be with the Sabbath service and relay for life."

Meet The Class Of 2023
The high school GPA for the class of 2023 is 3.33. Most – 84% – attended public high schools, including 15 secondary school students.
Awards were distributed to several members of the 2023 class, including 67 students who received Leadership Scholarships for Leadership and Academic Achievement. The class also includes 15 Martin Luther King Scholars, seven Park Scholars and 318 Presidential Scholars.
Massaran Cisse '23, a marketing communications specialist from the Bronx, New York, is one of 15 MLK Scholars. He also received the prestigious Dell Scholarship from the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation. He chose IC because he wanted to expand his understanding through education. "I want a college that encourages me to succeed," she said.

Members of the 2023 class come from all over the world and from almost every state in the United States.
More than 44% of incoming students are from New York, including 44 students from Tompkins County. New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts are also well represented. In total, this year's court includes 47 state residents.
Summer Leadership Institute
The 88 members of the 2023 class are international students representing 45 countries or territories. Most of these students are citizens of India, Canada and China. Ten American students are studying in high school abroad.
One of the international students, 23-year-old Ryan Lee, served in the military for two years in the South Korean military before enrolling at IC, where he will study accounting. The campus visit was the key to his arrival.

"I miss the students who went to school," Lee said. "It's a good opportunity to reflect on my time in college."

More than 26% of students of color attended the class, up 1% from last year. Most of the students were the first in their families to attend college: 248 students identified themselves as first-generation students.

For most of the class of 2023, this is just the beginning of their relationship with IC, but some are connected. The new group includes 51 children of alumni, 36 siblings of current students and 29 children of IC staff. Members of the 2023 class are encouraged by the Convocation College and staff at Glazer Arena.
One week after arriving on campus for orientation, members of the 2023 class are officially welcomed at a gathering to celebrate the start of the 2019-20 school year on Tuesday, August 27-20.

Upon entering Glazer Arena in the Athletics and Events Center, students were greeted with cheers from faculty and staff, as well as music by the IC Brass Ensemble and performances by the African Drum and Dance Ensemble.
Shaila Suho '23 said of the warm welcome from faculty and staff, "It makes me feel like the community welcomes us and cares about our success." "I also realized that being a college student is real life and now is the time to Rise."

LaJern Terri Cornish, Senior Vice President for Faculty and Academic Affairs, gave a welcome and welcoming meeting for the class of 2023 as well as the new faculty, calling IC a community of students, faculty and staff who closely related. Referring to IC's new strategic plan, he said one of the college's main goals is to build a "perpetual" community inspired by the power of the IC experience.

"Each member of this community makes a difference at the college by adding new threads and patterns to the fabric of our college's growth," Cornish said. "The fabrics woven from the sources of our various experiences, aspirations and needs. Cornish introduced IC Board of Trustees President Dave Lissey. Lissie describes her experience of coming to IC as a first-generation college student with excitement, curiosity and anxiety about what the future holds. "I encourage you to take advantage of what you consider your comfort zone," he said. "This is the best time of your life to connect with all the people and resources unique to IC." .

Reflecting on her experience at IC, Lissie has developed strong relationships with faculty, staff and students on campus. "Some of these connections will last a lifetime," he said. "You don't know now, but I'm sure it will."

Collado told the new students that their arrival on campus coincides with an uncertain time in the world, noting the growing divisions in society and the threat posed by climate change. Recognizing IC's role as a private entity serving the public interest, Collado issued an appeal to the 2023 class, encouraging students to use their knowledge to make the world a better place. "While you're on campus – and after you leave – your IC experience will show who you really are in the world and how you're making a meaningful contribution in a powerful way to Your life depends on a way bigger than yourself."
