Yes, that's right. UCLA is looking for biochemists with a PhD. Offered another chance and paid nothing. Although UCLA canceled the award after the scandal, the reality is that it is not uncommon in schools where such failed initiatives are common. Then expect a PhD. Students and professors who work for little or no pay. And 70% of current college graduates are unemployed, working part-time or with little job security. This is not for those who work in education, but for students teaching from overworked and low-paid professors who often cannot provide them with the mentoring and connection they need.

After a recent surge in coronavirus cases, Georgetown and Johns Hopkins lifted their mask obligations this week. Students returning to Georgetown after Easter break later this month will also be required to pass a negative test before returning to campus. As we think this summer we're having a hard time getting back to personal work with our students, we hope we won't need a mask treatment soon!

Less than equal for students without special education. In this week's Atlantic article, the author explores this argument, noting that MIT is right to say that the SAT reflects the same education that already exists, rather than creating inequality in the admissions process.
Perfect fit for all kids! We love helping high school students pursue their Ivy League dreams, but we also know that the extremely competitive course isn't for everyone. This article explores how parents can help students reevaluate their expectations and focus on the college that is right for them.

Not only the most popular. This is especially important for children to listen to now that they have a choice!

Finally, we are starting to see how students who have studied remotely for most of their high school years are doing in college. my answer is no College students struggle especially in subjects like math and science. This course builds directly on what students learn in high school. In addition to the challenges of online learning, passing grades at many schools meant that students could "pass" through difficult classes. I read it without actually trying it. We expect to see these types of problems as students move from high school to university in the next few years.

Many selective (or many colleagues call it "competitive") schools announced the final results of their regular admissions last night. It's crazy. Check out the latest results from Kickstart College. However, keep in mind that these data are somewhat misleading as they are a combination of the four outcomes of different entry strategies. In other words, many of these schools combine early decision planning with a high acceptance rate, accrediting 50% or more of their classes.

Let's take a look at Vanderbilt, who has over 2,700 ED I applicants. 2,400 ED II applicants; and 41,600 RD applications for a total of 46,717. As reported by Kickstart College, 2,864 students entered new classes with a 6% acceptance rate. Are you really crazy? But it gets worse. Of the 2,700 ED I applications, 24.1% of students were accepted. Of the 2,400 ED II applicants, 10.3% were accepted. And RD for about 41,600 requests? A total of 1,964 acceptance letters were sent. In other words, despite a 6% acceptance rate, the RD acceptance rate is 4.7%. as
Perhaps even more disappointing is that Northeastern has an acceptance rate of 7% (Northeastern!!!!), Tulane 10%, Boston University 14%, and NYU 12%.

MIT is the latest school to announce that it will roll back required tests for the next admission cycle. But the decision made by the education consulting community this week is more important than the decision. MIT argues that restoring exam requirements could make the admissions process fairer by providing access to students who may not have access to advanced education or other programs that demonstrate readiness for MIT. This is a controversial decision as experience has prevented us from continuing standardized testing for a long time.

This is because students who have taken the higher education and payroll tests will score better on these tests.

I tend to agree with MIT on this. After all, you can't fake your test scores (well, unless you're a Rick Singer customer!!). Even if tuition is expensive, students must get grades. On the other hand, when schools are selective, they are more likely to be a "softer" admissions process (letter, preparatory interview, enrichment, letter of recommendation, ED plan). Values Because these items are easier to use with certain exercises than exam items, special students can benefit greatly in exam-taking situations. We will have to make sure other schools follow MIT's lead in reintroducing exam requirements for the next admission cycle.
We previously blogged about Academic Impact ratings, and the latest metric that organizations use to rank universities is called Academic Governance. In fact, this number measures how well an organization uses its resources. In other words, it measures the impact on available resources. The result is an interesting list of schools that don't usually appear on popular lists. The #1 school for academic leadership is Fisk College, a private HBCU in Nashville.
