On his journey as Marist's new president this summer, Dr. Kevin C. Weinman helped move plans for the Dyson Center renovation forward. Construction on the Dyson Center is expected to begin in June following a groundbreaking. If the project stays on schedule, it should be completed in early 2024.

For the past 30 years, the Dyson Center has operated with only minor renovations to its offices and classrooms. When completed, the Dyson Center will double in size, from 54,000 square feet to 110,000 square feet. The center is funded by a leadership grant from the Dyson Foundation.
"We envision a world-class academic building that will be a hub for ideas and intellectual exchange," says Vice President for Academic Affairs Thom Wermuth. "When planning the new Dyson Centre, we wanted to ensure the perfect role of student collaboration that is the hallmark of a Marist education."

Although the building will be new, Marist has already put a construction plan in place to keep the design and aesthetics consistent with other buildings on campus. The new facility will be designed by world-renowned Ann Beha Architects. The building will include a 150-seat lecture hall, state-of-the-art classrooms and research laboratories for cognitive, developmental and social psychology.
"We are very excited about the great potential of this program for Marist students," says Dean of Students Deb DiCaprio. "With its prime location on campus, this new facility invites students from all backgrounds to gather and connect."

In implementing this project, Marist is looking for ways to make the building and infrastructure more sustainable and efficient. The new Dyson center will feature sustainable design elements, including eco-friendly materials and internal resources and a green roof.

"The Dyson family values its sustainable design environment, collaborative spaces and focus on preparing students for their careers," says Rob Dyson, board member and chairman of the Dyson Foundation.

"In the 32 years since the Dyson Center opened, Marist College's student population has grown exponentially, as has the university's reputation," adds Dyson. "This incredible addition will go a long way in preparing the next generation of leaders in business, education, criminal justice and other careers in the social and behavioral sciences."
Dyson will not only house the Schools of Management and Social and Behavioral Sciences, but will also provide the Marist Center for Career Services. The center will have new downtown offices that will provide a welcoming experience for students and better access to career services. Additionally, the Student Investment Center will move from the Hancock Center to the Dyson Center to provide a modern and authentic experience for students. The new building will feature an atrium with high ceilings, a dining room, a large lounge and various social and interaction spaces.
