Mental health and wellness has been a major focus on campus this past academic year as the community and nation face a youth mental health crisis exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. In September 2021, President Leshin convened a Mental Health and Wellness Task Force (MHWBTF) of students, faculty, and staff to develop a culture of wellness that promotes habits, practices, and decisions that benefit all parts of the community. . The main task of the task force was to seek input from all members of the community to better understand the intersection of mental health and well-being and rigor in higher education, and to identify new ways to support the community.
Led by co-chairs Jean King, Peterson Family Dean of Arts and Sciences, and Matt Barry, Assistant Director of the Student Development and Counseling Center (SDCC), more than 35 students, faculty and staff participated in the task force and gathered information.
