Rutgers Newark Academic Calendar 2023
Rutgers Newark Academic Calendar 2023 – Since 1766, Rutgers Preparatory School has prepared students for the challenges of college and beyond. In the Upper School, our students have many traditions, from the Freshman camping trip in September to the Senior Review before they begin—we value the links to the past that our traditions provide. The academic year is characterized by annual events such as Career Day, Burger Blast and of course Commencement, in addition to daily traditions such as the Morning Assembly, when the entire high school gathers to hear students and teachers promote upcoming events, announce results from athletics. and academic competitions, applause awards our students have received or shared a poignant picture.
Many of our courses and extracurriculars support the broad diversity of our community, but it is through the daily experience of working and interacting with students and teachers from many backgrounds that we will truly appreciate the benefits of living in a multicultural community. At Rutgers Prep, about 40% of our students are "students of color" – we celebrate not only Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa, but also Diwali, Eid-ul-Fitr, and Chinese New Year. While many institutions promote "colorblindness," we freely acknowledge the diversity of race, religion, social status, sexual harassment, and other forms of diversity that exist in our society, and use this wealth to promote understanding and tolerance in our daily interactions.

High school students understand the RPS motto: Severa res est verum gaudium – "Hard work is true joy." Excellence in classrooms, art studios, sports fields, stages and the wider community in which students live is a direct result of the effort and dedication they demonstrate. We see it in ways that are easily measured by college acceptances, standardized test scores, state sports championships, selection of official art shows, or state choirs and orchestras. We also find excellence in subtle ways – the routine where high school students volunteer to tutor Undergraduate Students, the management of complex data when members of the Student Research class present genetic sequencing results to scientists from the Waksman Institute at Rutgers University, the percentage of students who complete more than the required hours of community service. In high school, students enjoy challenging themselves daily and working hard to meet and exceed expectations.

High school students are assigned a counselor when they enter school. Generally, mentors stay with their groups of about ten students as they go from first year to graduation. The counselor plays an important role in guiding students to become independent learners, active participants, and develop leaders who enrich the school and the community at large. Mentors meet regularly with mentors, whether it's short meetings to share important information or longer meetings to discuss specific topics. They also have contact with their advisors one-on-one informally throughout the school year, and formally through scheduled meetings when needed.

The counselor's role is to listen carefully, give advice, give praise, facilitate communication between home and school, and provide a more objective perspective on challenges when they arise. The counselor is often in a unique position to provide relevant information about the counselor's relationship with parents and teachers, coaches, or administrators to help them work with the student.
The counselor has the "big picture" of the student's progress, academically and otherwise, and serves as the student's advocate, especially when he or she is getting used to high school, when the student may be struggling to get started or have difficulty communicating. and teachers. A counselor is a student's sounding board, giving advice on how to handle situations and encouraging the student to get involved in the day-to-day life of the school. He helps the student set realistic and achievable goals and discusses the student's plans to achieve those goals.

Rutgers Prep encourages and supports volunteerism in its student body – High school students completed more than 11,000 hours of community service last year, even as they endured lockdowns and school closures for much of the school year. As part of the curriculum requirements, Rutgers Prep expects all high school students to do at least 10 hours of community service each academic year and demonstrate this experience, and many choose to go above and beyond our expectations. For those students who complete 50 hours or more in a given year, we offer Honors Level Certificates. The highest level of recognition is the "Honours250" award for achieving 250 hours per year.
At the heart of a Rutgers Preparatory School education is the expectation that our students will be well prepared for college and the life ahead of them. We believe that the basis of this preparation is the ability to be a lifelong learner: to accept and explore old and new ideas; evaluating the value of new ways of understanding the world; seeking better ways of knowing.

We firmly believe that students cannot prepare for the future by using our previous tools. That's why Rutgers Prep is dedicated to providing students and teachers with a fully integrated suite of digital tools to promote learning and enhance teaching. From our campus-wide wireless network to our new classrooms and our Upper School iPad initiative, our goal is to prepare your child for success in college and beyond.
When Is The Fafsa Deadline 2022 2023?
Every classroom at Rutgers Prep, kindergarten through twelfth grade, is equipped with projectors and Apple TVs, allowing our faculty to share digital resources with their students. In addition, faculty members take great advantage of VR headsets, MakerBot 3D printers, iPads, and laptops to enhance collaboration in the classroom. Whether it's a digital presentation or interactive work, teaching and learning are enhanced through this combination of digital technology and technology.

In keeping with this tradition of aligning new and normal, the Upper School proudly announced the launch of an extended iPad campaign for the 2013-2014 school year. After much thought and discussion, the high school faculty decided that all students would be required to have an iPad.
Technology's ubiquity and connectivity give students and teachers greater access to digital tools and resources. Electronic textbooks are readily available and inexpensive, while providing an alternative to traditional text.

New Student Guide
If we teach today what we learned yesterday, we are not preparing students today or tomorrow.
As a Google Apps school, our faculty and students use state-of-the-art management systems to promote collaborative learning. In addition, we use a state-of-the-art Learning Management System to facilitate communication between students and teachers outside the school and campus boundaries. Whether it's just checking homework, contributing to a conversation, or accessing digital resources, this is a key component of our 21st century education.

A Lesson In Empowering Our Communities: Professor Michelle Curry Speaks
In the Upper School Humanities Department, our history teachers work with students to understand the past and develop the skills to apply that understanding to the world we live in today. Our goal is to encourage students to become active participants in the ongoing history process. Our program introduces students to the cultures, events and forces of change from around the world, past and present. We offer opportunities to gather and use knowledge and think deeply about problems within the disciplines of social sciences – history, geography, political theory, economics, sociology, psychology and anthropology.
Beyond this core of knowledge and skills, we strive to promote responsible attitudes and actions. We emphasize the value and dignity of each person and encourage students to respect themselves and others. We introduce the principles and practices of democracy and encourage students to explore the various economic, social, political and environmental challenges of our time. Students will develop knowledge of these challenges and the ability to find, evaluate and apply knowledge to solutions to these challenges. We study the past not only to understand the present, but also the possibilities of the future.
Fundamentals of Civilization is required for juniors, juniors must take American history, and seniors must choose a history year. Second year history courses are strongly recommended.
