City Tech Summer 2023 Calendar – The Houston Independent School District Board of Education has approved a proposed 2022-2023 school calendar that will add an additional spring break in April and move the last day of the first semester to before the winter break.
The calendar consists of a week of Thanksgiving break, a two-week winter break, and a week of spring break. Students and staff will be closed on Labor Day, MLK Day, Chavez-Huerta Day, and Memorial Day. HISD will also have an autumn break on October 5 and two spring breaks on April 7 and 21.

The trustees approved a grant from the Texas Education Agency to support quality after-school programs. $882,500 comes from Emergency Relief (ESSER) III funds for elementary and middle schools, which are being used to accelerate student learning in light of COVID-19. The dollars provide support in three areas: highly qualified after-school staff, technical assistance in the design and implementation of after-school activities, and high-impact tutoring and after-school programs.
Calendar — The Chapel School
The Trustees approved a $100,000 in-kind donation from the USA Football Foundation to M.C. Williams MS. The donation is part of the Foundation's It's a Game for Everyone and Safe Places to Play programs. Supplies and materials will include mini field structure, LED light poles, play walls, built-in gates, storage spaces, seating, polycarbonate signage, ADA handicapped gates, mini field acrylic surface with play lines in matching colors. and school supplies. logos.
The board also approved in-kind donations from Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. The Church will donate $30,000 worth of supplies to each Blackshear ES, Cullen MS, Lawson MS, and Yates HS. The purpose of the donation is to replenish each school's resource room to help students in need. Donated supplies include clothing, toiletries and subway passes.
