Disneyland Paris Crowd Calendar 2022

As if planning Disney's calendar for 2022 wasn't already difficult enough, it got even more difficult last year with the closure of the Disney World parks. To predict what may happen by the end of this year, we need to take a good look at what has happened so far since the beginning of the reopening phase.

As visitation rates have increased since the park's re-opening, we will look at whether to expect similar increases in 2022, or whether they may return to the most predicted sites.

Just a heads up, since the parks reopened, all of the traditional Disney World crowd calendars have been thrown out the window because it's extremely difficult to predict attendance with any kind of reliability right now.

March 2022 Disneyland Crowd Calendar

Some of our predictions for 2021 came true (overall, it was the single lowest attendance year in Disney World history), but with so many unforeseen factors, we were proven very wrong. Any predictions for 2022 should be taken with a grain of salt, as this year's congestion is harder to predict than ever before.

2021 was interesting to say the least and we didn't know how the audience would react during the year. There were a lot of unknown factors at play, such as the current health crisis, the economy, and the desire of guests to travel in general (this has not changed until 2022).

Walt Disney World continues the phased reopening that began in 2020 with Disney's Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. Things still haven't returned to normal, so Disney is still referring to the current phased reopening.

Disneyland Crowd Calendar

Last year the general crowd was much less than usual. Theme parks in 2020 were sometimes akin to ghost towns, and while they were rare in 2021, if you went on the right week, many didn't have to wait more than 15-20 minutes for a ride.

In 2021, it started to ease off in January, then saw a bit of a bump in February, and things picked up in March and April as people started to travel more for Spring Break and Easter. During these months the parks were incredibly busy and with reduced capacity the parks still felt full.

There was a slight dip in May and June, and then attendance exploded in July, when it felt like a normal Disney World crowd again. Much of this had to do with increasing theme park capacity and bringing fireworks back to the parks.

The Best Time To Visit Disneyland

If you really want to see the numbers, our friends at Thrill-data.com have some amazing charts where you can see the steady increase in wait times throughout the year.

The chart above shows Magic Kingdom wait times from 2020 to December 2021. You can see that the average wait time for the attraction when the parks reopened was less than 14 minutes, but at the end of last year it reached 41 minutes.

The big drop was in August and September, just like every year. In fact, the average wait time for all attractions in September was just 20 minutes, the lowest in over a year.

The Best Time To Visit Disneyland In 2022 And 2023

October brought the 50th anniversary and such, not as much as we first thought.

When the holiday season rolled around, the parks filled up again and last November and December were rated as the 1st and 3rd busiest months since they reopened.

So does this mean the crowd will continue to grow in 2022 and beyond? Yes, we think it has a good chance of happening.

Disney World Crowd Calendar

Crowds always increase from September to December, due to spring and summer vacations and school schedules. However, in the past year we have seen people open up to travel again and the park's capacity increasing dramatically due to the current health crisis.

Last year's low level is the result of several reasons. Many domestic travelers were initially hesitant to take the trip, but after a few months decided to feel more comfortable with the idea after seeing how Disney handled the changes and procedures. Some of the practices that were removed, such as wearing face masks outside, likely helped attract guests who wanted to wait earlier.

Additionally, many DVC members had to use their points from canceled trips in 2020 and earlier in 2021 and were "forced" to go to Disney World last year to avoid losing their points.

Disneyland Tips To Make The Very Most Of Your Day

Disney has seen a huge increase in park attendance this year by over 35% (last actual numbers reported). Yes, guests still have to use Disney's new Park Pass system to reserve parks, and numbers are limited each day, but crowds are almost back to normal.

Recently, Disney CEO Bob Chapek said that soon they will also "aggressively" expand the park's capacity. This figure was in place before the recent increase in new cases, but as the current health situation improves in the coming months, we expect park capacity to increase again.

As Disney becomes more efficient at operating the parks in this new "normal," Disney will gradually increase capacity to a level where it can safely operate the parks.

Free Disneyland Crowd Calendar

Travel restrictions initially played a big role in the small crowding, but this is less of a factor now that there are currently fewer travel restrictions in the United States and the borders are reopened to international travelers. By 2022, people coming from Europe or South America will have more opportunities to visit WDW, helping to increase attendance.

Then there is the question of economy. We actually thought it would be a bigger problem and that people wouldn't have nearly as much disposable income for trips like theme parks and such. With consumer spending higher and Americans saving like never before, this hasn't been much of a deterrent for travelers.

All of this is a combination of factors in the current crowd levels now showing up at Walt Disney World. Some of these factors should improve in 2022, and we predict that there will be even more people in the parks than last year.
