Johnston School Calendar 2023-24 – Johnston, read. (July 12, 2022) — Another day of summer! Following an adjustment by the Johnson school board to the 2022-23 academic calendar, the upcoming school year will start a day later for most students.

The first day of school for grades K-12 is now Wednesday, August 24th. The first day for 4-year-olds at JELA (Johnston Early Learning Academy) is Thursday, September 1st, while 2- and 3-year-olds start after Labor Day, Sunday, September 6th.

The change will allow another day of professional development for all JCSD staff, so students can participate in emergency drills and training with Johnston police before returning. This comes in light of the governor's recent announcement that every school building in the state will receive $50,000 for security upgrades.
