Smsd Calendar 2023-2024 – Canvas is a learning management system that allows teachers, parents, and students to access and manage an environment. It helps teachers create and display online learning materials, assess student learning, engage students in classes, and receive feedback on their progress.
Parents and guardians can access observer accounts to view grades, materials, and activities posted in their child's classes. As a parent there are two ways to access and interact with Canvas: 1) the Canvas website on a computer or phone, and 2) using the Canvas Parent app (iOS, Android)

When creating an account, you will need a "Connection Code" for your child. The code is available in two versions.

An observer account can be created in the app for mobile devices (iOS and Android) or using the URL https://.instructure.com/login/canvas
When you visit the URL https://.instructure.com/login/canvas, you will be asked to identify your school. Select a parent/guardian by typing Shawnee's message. On the login page, select "Parent Canvas User Account".
With parents/guardians on the canvas, you act as an observer. As an observer, you can see what's happening in class with special assignments, announcements, and comments for your students.

***Note that links in email notifications to viewers are usually copies of what the student receives. So only students and direct users to the student window can access the link. Parents cannot use the line with their observer credentials. They must login to their viewer account to view comments or feedback.
